TREATMENT SPOTLIGHT: Pain Relief with Cupping Therapy

Written By Dr. Rinaldi on January 23, 2021

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. Cupping is used to complement their care for a host of issues and conditions.

Cupping Therapy is an ancient alternative medicine therapy that utilizes special “cups” to create suction in specific locations of the body to increase blood flow and reduce pain and deep tissue inflammation within the body. The skin is the biggest organ of the human body. Toxins in the body will float around in the layers of the skin and deep tissue. Cupping Therapy is said to “pull the unhealthy toxins up to the surface” allowing healthy blood and oxygen flow to the needed areas. This allows the toxins to be flushed out through the lymphatic system, kidneys, and liver.

WHY WE USE CUPPING THERAPY?

  • Stimulates blood flow.
  • Loosen muscles.
  • Relieves pain.
  • Increases flexibility/range of motion.
  • Reduces stress.

Cupping therapy soothes the nervous system, creating a parasympathetic “rest and digest” response. Inducing deep relaxation makes for a more effective, gentle, and comfortable spinal adjustment by Dr. Rinaldi. Cupping also quickly relaxes muscles and connective tissue when applied in between vertebrae. These tiny tissues are not always easily accessible by traditional therapy techniques making cupping a great addition to any treatment.
